“It was our 1979 Christmas party. We’d often have an employee gift-exchange, and this year was no different. My gift was from Mark Heller, Chief Engineer. It was a pair of USC gym shorts. Thought it would be fun to slip into them – where in front of our entourage, I could proceed to lead our group into the famous SO. CAL. SPELLOUT just like they do at the LA Coliseum. Since SC was about to play Ohio State in the 1980 Rose Bowl, I thought this would be a lot of fun.”
“There was a tradition of having a yearly Howard Tullis summit meeting held once a year – typically on a Saturday. This would be an all day affair where the jocks and the sales people would kind of kick ideas around.
“For eating, it was always club sandwiches. Howard usually brought a few of his legendary cigars along with him and I believe that only Bill Bellman took advantage of the offer.
“The day was actually kind of fun. If we wanted to vent, this was the time. For the most part it was a pretty smooth affair.
“I recall one meeting in which Howard was speaking of sales – directing his inquiry to Ginger Crocker – seeing a little more work was needed. Ginger; our — Darby Doll — bedecked in layers and layers of makeup began to shed a few tears wherin her mascara started to run. Poor little Ginger.”
