Tiger Radio

Bio of Terry Corbell

Terry Corbell began in June, 1970.  “I was mainly on the KDUO side of the station, with different shifts; 12 midnight to 6AM; 9AM to 12 noon; morning and afternoon drive news on both KFXM and KDUO, including a Sunday morning shift on KDUO.  KDUO was the most powerful FM station in the Inland Empire with a raging 72,000 watts of power, the third strongest signal in Southern California.

As you can see, it is a very transient business for many reasons.  Increase in pay at a station across town, you don’t like the shift you’re on, maybe there is  a conflict of personalities, the building is a dump, the signal isn’t strong enough or you might even be fired.  It’s an interesting business.

The great thing for starting your career in radio at KFXM/KDUO is they were the best radio stations to get exposure.  The stations studios were in the Holiday Inn, at the l-10 and 215 Interchange.  Travelers used those two freeways to go on vacation to Palm Springs, or maybe skiing in the nearby San Bernardino Mountains or try their luck in Las Vegas. Since KFXM/KDUO had the two strongest signals in the Inland Empire, they were a great jumping off places to get into bigger markets with better pay.  You never knew who was traveling those freeways, and were monitoring your stations.

When I left KFXM/KDUO, I worked at KPRO in Riverside, KDEM in Walnut Creek and eventually KTTV Channel 11 in Los Angeles.  From there I moved to KIIS-FM/KPRZ-AM and then to Salt Lake City where I worked at KSL and KQMB.

After Salt Lake City, I did freelance news on CNN (Hollywood Bureau) NBC News, KNX and CBS Radio in Los Angeles.

Then I changed hats and become the CEO of CMS-Corbell Management Services, a consulting firm in marketing and Belo Media web sites in Washington State.

I’ve created and hosted a radio show, Washington Business Weekly for the association of Washington Business, the State Chamber of Commerce.  The program is to podcast to its members throughout the state.

I was born in Oklahoma City and have two sons, one daughter and one granddaughter.

My education that prepared me for all of my positions was Pepperdine College, Don Martin and UCLA (post graduate studies, executive MBA programs)

For entertainment, I love sailboat racing on the Puget Sound, gardening, reading, business news on the internet, community service, (including board of directors for two non-profit organizations.)

While vacationing, I love reading a good mystery thriller, each day, at the beach, with no cell phone or note book computer.  I like the music of the 60s and early 70s.  While taking working long trips I listen to Classical or Jazz.

Sinatra is my favorite artist; however I enjoy most artists in my era of radio, particularly The Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, Steppenwolf, Creedence Clearwater Rewind, The Fifth Dimension and ZZ Top.
